He's one of the least played heroes ever but I recently got the pink skin and I love it so now I want to see if I can use him and not completely suck at playing the guy.Granted I'm low gold and high silver and he probably works there and not anywhere else but I've had some success, being able to shred people while not dying in three seconds. Plus the meta is double shields and Bastion's the best shield breaker in the entire game so for me right now he's worth the shot. (Rein's shield is at 1600hp and its the best of the game, Bastion deals 450 dps.so in short a tad less than 4 seconds to fully break it. That's INSANE)I've been trying to use the Recon configuration more than the sentry one, using the latter when there's shields or when I know I have the upper hand.

Oct 12, 2019 Bastion will destroy your shields while beep boop bopping all over the competition. I understand Bastion now, and after you watch this video, so will you.

It's not sentry's level of damage but it does its job and basically transforms me into a Soldier 76 with less mobility and burst. It's kind of mandatory as well when there's a Roadhog that wants to hook me, Reinhardt that wants to pin me down, any sort of close-range hero wanting to bust my ass (Junkrat, Reaper.also Tracer and Genji because they're harder to hit and in sentry I'd be their favorite target) and Sombra's hack-fest. After they've used the abilities that counter me I switch to Sentry so they're way more likely to die or stick to Recon if the situation calls for it.And for all those heroes that deal knockback the Sentry configuration just denies them. Lucio can't boop anymore, Pharah and Orisa can't drive me away, Roadhog is basically screwed when he uses his ultimate.and then I don't know, I still have to try him more. I know I can counter a Pharah that ults right in front of your face before she kills you and there's that. Pretty sure there's more interactions going on for him. From the little I've gathered it feels like Bastion requires good positioning first and foremost but also know how to be present in fights + know what configuration to use. An issue I had by looking back at replays was that I wasn't really there for several fights while my sole presence would've disrupted the opposition, for example, and I'm trying to improve on that.
Configuration knowledge seems also important because one removes the flaws of the other (with one granting you knockback immunity and the other.just making you harder to hit consistently which is definitely a plus).I apologize for the rambling but currently I'm having fun with the robot guy and I want to see what's the things he can do and how to play him in a more reliable way. I've been trying to use the Recon configuration more than the sentry oneIt's good to use both depending on the situation.
I've noticed that a lot of new Bastion players will use Recon far more than Sentry. I wouldn't recommend that, since at that point you're basically playing a crappier S76. Bastion's ridiculously high DPS in Sentry mode is pretty much his entire purpose for existing - you should try to use it whenever you can(assuming it's safe to do so!).If your team builds around you by playing shields, Mercy, Bap, etc. You should just set up with them.
Sit behind shields and hold left click at the enemy. If your team doesn't build around you, you need to be on the move often. Change your position after every fight so that the enemy team never knows where to find you. Try to position yourself in a place that gives you coverage of important areas without making it too easy for enemies to shoot you. Position yourself in a place that lets you escape in Recon form if needed.Your ult, tank form, actually lowers your total DPS output compared to Sentry form. Don't use it if you're just trying to break shields or melt tanks.
Tank form's strength comes from its ability to one-shot squishy targets at range, so when you use it make sure you have some way to bypass the enemy shields and have a good view of the enemy. You can also use tank form as a mobility option, by rocket-jumping to higher areas. You can use this to set up in places that Bastion normally can't get to and surprise your enemies. For example, you can get to the high ground on King's Row point 3 by rocket jumping off the payload.
The problem with bastion is in certain areas of a map, he is unflankable. (e.g Kings row defense final spawn left side) If he's alone, the argument could be made that you could just rush past him so he doesn't get a lock onto you however the problem comes when there are 5 other competent players on the same team who will almost guaranteed kill you if you even try to go for the bastion (or if you try to go for bastion's teammates then he gets a free ult). Certain comps in certain maps are just impossible to break through if both sides are of similar skill levels.
There have been countless times where 1 side has wrecked all the way up to almost winning then ending up losing because of said map+hero comps. That's kind of the main reason why bastion is seen as OP really. On one hand, under other circumstances, Bastion is really easy to take down using various means (Hanzo, Widow, Pharah, Genji, etc) but when bastion is in a map section that favors his playstyle (no flanking routes, small open area) eventually it will end with throwing bodies at him and in the off-chance you break through with the help of a few ults, he cleans house with his tank mode which puts everything back to square one again.tl;dr Bastion isn't the problem. Map design is. That's kinda the point of using your ult though.
Quite a few ults are incredibly good at breaking those kind of chokepoints, regardless of what's there. Even if Mercy counters your ult, a Bastion trio still needs time to set up, so if your team pushing in hard with the ult, I don't see how you can't break through such a simple setup. Now, I do get that in most cases, this level of coordination is tough, but how do you expect to break through a team that's using a decent level of coordination with a team that isn't? As much as I solo-queue in OW, I understand this one point, and is why I hate it when people turn off auto-join voice chat.
That's a first for me. I'm primarily a Junkrat player mainly BECAUSE he's so versatile. I can spam grenades into a capture point on attack as well as get opponents off with the mine so we can start capping.I can arc grenades to high vantage points from just below snipers so they can't see me to shoot me.
They either run or die from the pool of grenades I've left next to them (that's if I don't direct hit them).Yes, he's a heavy damager, but I play him primarily as a disruptor. He can ruin a team's strategy if played right, doesn't matter whether they're pushing or holding.I've had entire teams try to focus on me during an attack (allowing my team to cap a now-empty, or near-empty point) because I've pissed them all off so badly. Those post-game cards where I show up for damage output are just a nice bonus.
